Knock Museum were successful in obtaining funding in the Heritage Council Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2023 to digitise the entire collection of Knock Shrine Annuals, published yearly by the Knock Shrine Society from 1938– 2013 and finishing with a special edition in 2015 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Society. The Annuals recorded yearly events at Knock Shrine including programme of ceremonies and devotions, favours attributed to Our Lady of Knock, information for pilgrims and pilgrimage organisers, homilies, prayers, articles and photographs. These Annuals provided not only a unique record of events and activities at Knock Shrine but also gives insights into Catholic Ireland and the broader social and economic conditions during those years.
We contracted Eneclann to digitise the Knock Shrine Annuals for us and found the entire team at Eneclann a joy to work with. All 10,900 pages were scanned to a very high-resolution, ahead of schedule. Throughout the process, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Paul kept us up to date every step of the way. The Military Archives partnered with Eneclann for the digitisation of the Bureau of Military History 1913-1921 ‘Contemporary Documents’ series. As this material consists of tens of thousands of items, ranging from postcards to maps and from posters to pamphlets, it presented both human-resource and technical challenges that were beyond our internal capacity to meet. Eneclann provided a professional and bespoke solution with a proactive and collaborative approach to project management that saw them, for all practical purposes, integrated into the Military Archives team for the duration. The delivery of the final product was on time and met all of our expectations and specification.
