Events at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

On Saturday 7th May at 20.00 soloist Virgina Kerr performs with the Goethe-Institute choir in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  Concert includes music by Thomas Tallis, Haydn, and Handel.  Tickets €20, all proceeds to the Carmichael centre.

Tennessee Tech University, and North Carolina State University choral societies provide a free lunch-time recital at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 13th and 14th, respectively.

Dublin City Council and the 1916 Rising

The Easter Rising mostly took place in Ireland’s capital city and directly impacted on Dublin City Council.  Some fighting occurred in sites belonging to the council, including City Hall itself, while some employees fought in the Rising; other employees were tasked with trying to deal with the aftermath.

This collection of essays is the first detailed study to examine the impact of Dublin City Council on the 1916 Rising.

What did our Ancestors wear?

Nothing sums up the bizarre nature of past fashions as the crinoline, a kind of frame that held up the large skirts of ladies dresses- think Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind!  In a seemingly;y bizarre turn of events Brian May (of Queen) has published a 3D, stereoscopic inspired book on the history and influence of the crinoline.
