County Focus – Waterford

CorkIf you like using directories and your ancestors came from Waterford, then you are in luck! Eneclann have published Shearman’s Directory of Waterford, Kilkenny and the Southeast, which dates from 1839 and is thus one of the earliest local directories for Ireland. We also have Harvey’s Waterford Almanac and Directory for 1866. This contains a directory of city inhabitants, a trade directory and local information such as a calendar of important local events.
Waterford is also covered by the Munster directories that we have (Pigot’s, Slater’s, Henry & Coughlan’s and Guy’s) covering the years 1824 to 1894.
Another more unusual title that we have for Waterford is the Waterford City Grand Jury Presentments from Spring 1846. This details the issues brought before the local government, which are as diverse as deserted children, road repairs and policing.
