Genealogy

Let Eneclann's experienced researchers help you trace your Irish roots.

Eneclann is the largest genealogy research agency in the island of Ireland. We have a team of professional researchers with wide ranging experience of genealogical research.

Our experience

We have conducted thousands of research projects for individuals and for the media. (We have worked on many of the Who Do You Think You Are? programmes, including Irish research for series 1-4 of the UK edition, series 1-2 of the Australian edition and series 1 of the Canadian edition. We were also anchor researchers for series 1 of the Irish edition).

How we can help you

All research is organised in consultation with the consulting genealogist. We can accept commissions immediately and complete most research work within 4 to 6 weeks.

To arrange your research, please follow the steps below.

STEP 1: Gather Information about your Ancestors
To enable us to start your research in Ireland you will need to locate the following information:

• Name of the ancestor who was born in Ireland, their parents and as many siblings as possible.

• Date of birth and marriage: if you don’t have a date, estimate the time between birth and marriage as a generation (25 to 30 years).

• Place - this is the most important piece of information. You will need the county, parish and ideally townland.

If you don't have enough information to complete the assessment form, take a look at our guides which will help you find out as much as you can about your immigrant ancestor's Irish origins:

United States Australia New Zealand
United Kingdom Canada Jamaica

STEP 2: Complete Assessment Form

Once you have gathered together as much relevant detail as you can about your Irish ancestor (their name, address, occupation, religion - see step 1 above), complete the assessment form and our genealogists will develop a research plan for you.

The assessment costs €38 (or US$40).

STEP 3: Agree Research Plan

You will receive a research plan from one of our genealogists, who will consult with you on how we will proceed with the research.

We only accept commissions where an initial assessment shows there is a strong possibility of tracing your family further.

The minimum deposit we accept for research is €195, although a typical research project costs approximately €360.
