Wexford historical society to be treated to “murderers and rebels”

Eneclann director Brian Donovan will give a talk on “Murderers, Rebels & Drunkards: Your Irish Ancestors & The Law” for North Wexford Historical Society this Friday (September 27th).

The Gorey Library talk had originally been scheduled last March but was postponed due to flooding on the N11.

The enduringly popular lecture references several 19th century court cases, the records of which are now more accessible than ever thanks to their digitisation and indexation online.

Court and prison records have increasingly become a major source for tracing your family history, as the law touched almost every family. Whether they were criminals, revolutionaries, witnesses, victims, or parties in a civil dispute, all are recorded.

Brian’s lecture will explain how you can use these sources for your own family history research.

All are welcome, with free admission to members of North Wexford Historical Society. Admission to non-members is €5.
